Yelp leads: an AI front desk that texts back in seconds, when Yelp gives you a number
Yelp's Request a Quote is free, and so is the homeowner's option to send the same request to other businesses. Here's how to get to Yelp leads first, and the honest limits of doing it from outside Yelp.
Why speed decides Yelp jobs
Yelp's Request a Quote is free to set up, and homeowners are given the option to send the same request to other related businesses. Yelp also shows your response time on your page: it's the median time you took to respond to new messages in the last 30 days, next to your response rate. A slow reply loses the job and shows up on your listing.
What happens when a Yelp lead comes in
A Zap in your own Zapier account sends each new Yelp lead to your AI Front Desk Helper account. If the lead includes a phone number, Alex texts the customer within seconds, from your business number:
If there's no phone number, Alex can't text, so the lead is emailed to you and shows up in your dashboard. Answer that one inside Yelp. Yelp is clear that phone numbers are available for leads where the consumer opted in, and that the initial lead may not include a phone number. Email addresses on Yelp leads are masked.
What happens after the first text
When the customer replies, Alex, the AI receptionist, carries the conversation from your business number. It answers from what you've set up: your services, your service area, your hours. With the estimator turned on, for junk removal, window cleaning, pressure washing, house cleaning, pest control, garage doors, pool service, flooring, concrete, window installation, stump grinding and lawn care, it gives a ballpark from your own price sheet and says the crew confirms the price on site. For every other trade it books the estimate instead of quoting a job price.
On Pro and above, Alex offers real open times from your Google Calendar and books the estimate right in the text thread. If the customer calls your number instead, Alex answers the call. You get a notification for every new Yelp lead, and new leads are saved with Yelp as their source, so you can see which platform turns into booked work.
Two things it deliberately doesn't do. It doesn't call the lead: the homeowner asked by message, not for a phone call, so Alex texts first. And it never drops a lead. If a lead arrives without a usable phone number, or the text can't be sent, the lead is emailed to you and shows up in your dashboard so a person can take it from there.
Setting it up
- Make sure Request a Quote is turned on in your Yelp business account.
- In your AI Front Desk Helper dashboard, open Settings, find the Yelp tile and copy your personal connection address.
- In Zapier, create a Zap with the trigger Yelp Leads → New Lead (Yelp's Zapier guide) and connect your Yelp business account. This needs a paid Zapier plan.
- Add the action Webhooks by Zapier → POST, paste your address, set it to JSON, and map the fields the tile lists (name, phone_number, category and message). Turn the Zap on.
What it can't do
- It doesn't reply inside Yelp. Alex answers by text. Yelp's response time is measured on messages inside Yelp, so reply there too, even briefly.
- It can't text a lead with no phone number. Those come to you by email to answer in Yelp.
- It needs Zapier. The connection runs through your own Zapier account, which means a paid Zapier plan.
A straight answer about where this stands: the connection is built and we tested it ourselves on September 30, 2026, sending a test lead to my own company's account and getting the text within seconds. No customer has connected a live account yet, so we have no results to publish, and we won't make them up.
Questions contractors ask
Why didn't Alex text a Yelp lead?
Most likely the lead had no phone number. Yelp only shares one when the customer opts in. Those leads are emailed to you so you can answer inside Yelp.
Do I need Zapier for Yelp leads?
Yes. The connection is a Zap in your own Zapier account (Yelp Leads, New Lead, sent to your AI Front Desk Helper address), which needs a paid Zapier plan.
Does Alex's text improve my Yelp response time?
No. Yelp measures response time on messages inside Yelp. Reply there too, even if it's just to say you've sent a text.
Can Alex book the estimate from a Yelp lead?
Yes, on Pro and above, when the lead has a phone number. Alex offers real open times from your Google Calendar in the text thread.
Fifteen minutes. We call your business number, run a real call, and show you what happens after it. You decide.
