Angi leads: an AI front desk that texts every one back in seconds

Angi charges you when the homeowner sends the request, not when you reach them. Here's how to get to every lead first, even from a job site, and the Angi settings that decide whether it works.

By Drew Koch, owner of Gladiators Painting and founder of AI Front Desk Helper · Updated September 30, 2026

Short version. Angi says it matches each homeowner with no more than 4 pros and recommends calling every lead within 15 minutes. AI Front Desk Helper connects to Angi's lead feed, and when a new lead arrives, Alex, the AI receptionist, texts the homeowner from your business number within seconds. When they reply, Alex answers their questions and, on Pro and up, books the estimate on your Google Calendar. Before you switch it on, add your business number to Angi's connected numbers, or texts to Angi's temporary numbers may not reach the homeowner. Plans are $297 to $997 a month.

Why speed decides Angi jobs

Angi's own help center explains the race you're in. When a homeowner submits a request, "we will match them with no more than 4 pros", and "you are charged for a lead as soon as a customer sends out a request". You've paid before you've said a word. Angi's advice is to try "calling each lead you receive within 15 minutes".

Fifteen minutes is easy at a desk and hard on a roof. Most contractors who buy Angi leads know the feeling of calling back an hour later and hearing "we already found someone."

What happens when an Angi lead comes in

Angi sends each new lead to your AI Front Desk Helper account the moment the homeowner submits it. Within seconds, Alex texts them from your business number:

"Hi Sarah, this is Smith Painting — thanks for your request on Angi about your interior painting project! I can get you a quick quote and find a time that works. What are you looking to get done? (Reply STOP to opt out.)"

What happens after the first text

When the customer replies, Alex, the AI receptionist, carries the conversation from your business number. It answers from what you've set up: your services, your service area, your hours. With the estimator turned on, for junk removal, window cleaning, pressure washing, house cleaning, pest control, garage doors, pool service, flooring, concrete, window installation, stump grinding and lawn care, it gives a ballpark from your own price sheet and says the crew confirms the price on site. For every other trade it books the estimate instead of quoting a job price.

On Pro and above, Alex offers real open times from your Google Calendar and books the estimate right in the text thread. If the customer calls your number instead, Alex answers the call. You get a notification for every new Angi lead, and new leads are saved with Angi as their source, so you can see which platform turns into booked work.

Two things it deliberately doesn't do. It doesn't call the lead: the homeowner asked by message, not for a phone call, so Alex texts first. And it never drops a lead. If a lead arrives without a usable phone number, or the text can't be sent, the lead is emailed to you and shows up in your dashboard so a person can take it from there.

Setting it up

  1. In your AI Front Desk Helper dashboard, open Settings and find the Angi tile. It gives you your personal connection address and writes the email to Angi for you.
  2. Angi turns the feed on by email: "Email crmintegrations@angi.com your Angi account ID and the webhook URL." Send that email with your account ID and your address.
  3. Add your business number to Angi's connected numbers. Angi can hand you a temporary phone number for the homeowner instead of their real one, and it expires 30 days after the lead. When your number is on Angi's connected list, your calls and texts get through and the homeowner sees your real business number. Do this before you rely on the texts.
  4. Once Angi confirms the feed is on, new leads flow in and Alex texts each one.

What it can't do

A straight answer about where this stands: the connection is built and we tested it ourselves on September 30, 2026, sending a test lead to my own company's account and getting the text within seconds. No customer has connected a live account yet, so we have no results to publish, and we won't make them up.

Questions contractors ask

How do I connect Angi to AI Front Desk Helper?

Copy your connection address from the Angi tile in Settings, then email it with your Angi account ID to crmintegrations@angi.com. Angi turns the feed on from their side.

What are Angi's temporary phone numbers?

Angi can give you a temporary number for the homeowner that expires 30 days after the lead. Add your business number under Angi's connected numbers so your texts and calls get through and the homeowner sees your real number.

Does a text from Alex count for Angi lead credits?

Angi's credit rules ask that you attempted to call the homeowner within 24 hours. A text isn't a call, so call the lead yourself if you might dispute it.

Will Alex call the Angi lead?

No. Alex texts first, because the homeowner filled out a form rather than asking for a phone call. If they call your number, Alex answers.

Can Alex book the estimate from an Angi lead?

Yes, on Pro and above. Alex offers real open times from your Google Calendar in the text thread and books the one the homeowner picks.
